BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Sophomore
Alex Voight-Shelley finished fourth out of 34 competitors, leading Bates women's golf to fourth place out of seven teams at the Polar Bear Shootout on Saturday.
Voight-Shelley (State College, Pa.) finished her round at Brunswick Golf Club on a high note, recording a birdie on the par-4 14th hole, then ripping off a string of four straight pars down the stretch. She finished with an 80, just three strokes behind medalist Elizabeth Kim of Wellesley.
The Bates women's golf team saw a pair of first-years tie for 10th place on the day.
Nerea Barranco Aramburu (Zarautz, Spain) and
Madeleine Kwei (Pasadena, Calif.) both shot an 86 in their collegiate debuts.
Combined, the top four performers for the women's golf team finished with a score of 349, just one shot back of third-place Bowdoin. Bates finished 22 strokes ahead of fifth-place Trinity. Wellesley took the top spot with a combined score of 326.
The Bates women return to Brunswick Golf Club Sunday for the State of Maine Invitational.
