HADLEY, Mass. -- The Bates men's and women's rowing teams had major representation as the New England Small College Athletic Conference named its all-conference rowing teams on Wednesday, with six Bobcats from the women's team and two more from the men's team earning honors.
On the women's side, Bates seniors
Grace Bake (London, England),
Elizabeth Fischer (Chicago, Ill.),
Sally Harris Porter (Washington, D.C.), and
Elizabeth Folsom (coxswain) (San Mateo, Calif.) represented the four-time defending NESCAC champion Bobcats as First Team All-NESCAC selections. Harris Porter was a Second Team selection in 2019, while Folsom is a three-time First Team coxswain.Â
Carla Guichard (Boston, Mass.) and
Lillian Kinder (Pike, N.H.), two juniors who row on Bates' first varsity eight, were named Second Team All-NESCAC, their first collegiate honors.
On the men's side, sophomore
Timothy Bates (Rueschlikon, Switzerland) landed on the All-NESCAC First Team, in his first opportunity to gain a collegiate honor (no All-NESCAC teams were named in 2020). Junior captain
Steven Sparks (Simsbury, Conn.) received Second Team All-NESCAC honors. Both men row for Bates' first varsity eight, which placed fourth in last weekend's NESCAC Championships.
The Bates women's team won their fourth straight conference crown and sixth overall, and are now taking aim at their fourth straight NCAA Division III title, which will be decided May 28-29. The men's team might compete the same weekend in the IRA Championships, being held in West Windsor, N.J.
