WATERVILLE, Maine -- Sophomores
Paul Detre and
Jerry Jiang teamed up to shoot a 72 to pace the men's golf team in the Colby Classic Sunday at Waterville Country Club.
The Bobcats placed fourth out of 10 groups of golfers overall, shooting 220 as a team. Bowdoin won the event with a score of 212, followed by Husson's first team at 203 and Thomas College at 218. The Bobcats finished one stroke ahead of the fifth-place Colby first team.
Each two-man team played the first six holes as one best ball, the next six as a scramble and the final six alternating shots. The total score was the best result for each two man team and the scores of the top three teams per school were counted.
While Detre (Morristown, N.J.) and Jiang (Beijing, China) led the way, the Bobcats also received solid performances from the team of sophomores
John Kawakami (Northport, N.Y.) and
Evan Glicos (Windham, Maine) as well as junior
Patrick Bergin (Longmeadow, Mass.) and senior captain
Jack Howard (Pelham, N.Y.). Both duos shot a 74.
The Bates men's golf team returns to action on Saturday, October 23 when they look to win the CBB Tournament, also hosted this year by Waterville Country Club.
