HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Bates volleyball team came back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Trinity College 3-2 for its second NESCAC win of the season on Saturday, before falling to No. 19 nationally ranked MIT on a neutral court immediately following the win.
Bates (6-12, 2-6 NESCAC) will compete in the Hall of Fame Tournament next weekend at Smith College. The Bobcats will face Clark University on Friday at 8pm, then Mount Holyoke and Wellesley on Saturday at 10am and 3pm, respectively.

Bates won the first set against Trinity, then dropped the next two before playing some of its best volleyball of the season i the final two frames to win. Bates attacked at a .458 percentage in the fourth set and .450 in the fifth.

Sydney Phillips (Plainville, Mass.) led all players with 16 kills, matching her career high while making only four errors on 31 attempts (.387). First-year
Alyssa Lowther (Wyckoff, N.J.) had 12 kills and three blocks, and sophomore
Cayla Deacon (Ellenwood, Ga.) posted a season-best 11 kills on 32 attempts (.219). Senior

Kate Hansen (Menlo Park, Calif.) all reached double figures in digs with 18, 12 and 12, respectively, while Eide dished out a career-high 46 assists.
Bates scored the first four points to open the deciding set, led off by kills from Hansen and Eide, then a dual block by Deacon and Lowther and the seventh ace of the match by Hansen. Phillips put down four kills on the ensuing 13 points to stake Bates to a 10-7 lead, and Eide's third kill of the set ended a 3-0 Trinity run to restore Bates' lead at 11-10. First-year
Julia Neumann (Norwell, Mass.) was able to serve out the final four points, with Deacon supplying two final kills including match point.

The Bobcats surprised the nationally ranked Engineers (20-1) by taking leads of 14-8 and 20-15 in the first set, but MIT rallied on the final four points to move ahead by a 25-23 score.
MIT attacked at a season-low .109 percentage in the match, while Bates was limited to -.034, its third-lowest mark of the season.
Neumann led the Bobcats in kills for the first time this season with five on 13 attempts with no errors (.385). Junior
Charlotte Morris (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Phillips added four kills apiece, with Morris also posting a team-high 10 digs.Â
Hannah Collins and Allison Brattley had seven kills apiece for MIT, which played 16 players in the match. Consecrata Rozario added six kills. Ottavia Personeni had 14 digs and Emily Cheng had 21 assists, eight digs and two kills.
