SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Bates men's track and field team took second place in the distance medley relay and senior Justin Levine finished third in the 5,000 meters, giving the Bobcats a strong first day of the New England Division III Indoor Championships at Springfield College on Friday.
Levine (Boca Raton, Fla.) took third place in the 5,000-meter run, with a flat-track career-best time of 14:48.83, to score six team points and earn All-New England honors.
Bates finished second out of 19 teams in the distance medley relay, as sophomore John Mieszczanski (Chelmsford, Mass.), junior Miles Nabritt (Brooklyn, N.Y.), sophomore Jackson Elkins (South Deerfield, Mass.) and junior Ryan Nealis (London, England) completed the race in 10:16.83. The Bobcats trailed first-place Williams by 1.66 seconds and were 2.43 seconds ahead of third-place Amherst.
The two performances gave Bates 14 points, good for second place after just two events. The majority of the meet takes place Saturday at Sprinfield, beginning at 10am.
