BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates men's track and field team recorded at least 11 personal- or season-best marks Saturday at the Bowdoin Invitational, a non-scoring meet featuring 13 teams.
Notable performances by the Bobcats included:
- Sophomore John Everett (Winchester, Mass.) recorded the top shot put among 20 competitors, at 47'9", exceeding his previous career-best by 28 inches. He also had a top weight throw of 46'11.5".
- First-year Liam Byrne (Ridgefield, Conn.) placed third in the shot put, with a season-best mark of 46'1.25".
- Junior Zach Smith (Waterville, Maine) had a top weight throw of 48'10".
- First-year Colby Stakun-Pickering (Wellesley, Mass.) ran the 60-meter dash in a season-best 7.37 seconds, tying for first among 10 runners.
- Senior Gabe Benson (Maplewood, N.J.) ran the 1,000 meters in a personal-best 2:37.81, fastest among six runners, while junior Jeremy Bennett (Windham, Maine) finished second in a career-best 2:38.51.
- Sophomore Garrett Evans (Sauquoit, N.Y.) ran the 200-meter dash in a career-best 24.03 seconds.
- Junior Miles Nabritt (Brooklyn, N.Y.) ran the 200 meters in 24.15 seconds.
- Sophomore Jackson Elkins (South Deerfield, Mass.) ran the 800 meters in 1:59.32, third-fastest among 18 runners.
- First-year Owen Glover (Andover, Mass.) placed fourth in the 800 meters, at a personal-best 2:01.24.
- First-year Daniel McConnell (Califon, N.J.) ran the mile in a season-best 4:27.11.
- First-year Trevor McAuliffe (Tokyo, Japan) ran the 3,000 meters in a career-best 9:09.97.
- Sophomore Liam Evans (Sauquoit, N.Y.) ran the 60-meter hurdles in a career-best 9.08 seconds.
- Senior Beaufils Kimpolo-Pene (Bronx, N.Y.) placed second in the high jump (5'10.75").
- Nabritt, junior Elijah Coyne (Newtown, Pa.), first-year Evan Koch (Brattleboro, Vt.) and senior Brendan Donahue (Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.) ran the 4x400 relay in 3:38.50.
- Donahue long-jumped 21'0.75" and recorded a personal-best mark of 38'10.5" in the shot put.
- Sophomore Paul Speliakos (Milford, Mass.) triple-jumped 39'2.25".
Bates will next compete at the New England Division III Championships, taking place Feb. 28-29 at Springfield College.
