WALTHAM, Mass. -- Senior captain Maisie Silverman scored the lone point for the No. 27 nationally ranked Bates women's tennis team, as the Bobcats fell 8-1 at No. 22 Brandeis in a non-conference outdoor match on Saturday.
Silverman (Brunswick, Maine) defeated Sabrina Neergaard 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, raising her individual record to 8-6 on the season at the top spot. Silverman also teamed with junior Bella Stone (Concord, Mass.) in a tightly contested match at No. 1 doubles, where the Bates duo fell 9-8 (3) to Neergaard and Keren Khromchenko.
Bates missed out on another point by a hair, as first-year Hannah Sweeney (Franklin, Mass.) lost 7-5, 2-6, 15-13 to Khromchenko at No. 2 singles.
Bates (9-7, 3-3 NESCAC) play at Colby Tuesday at 4pm before finishing the regular season at home against Bowdoin on Thursday at 4pm.
