THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Bates women's tennis notched its second convincing win of the young spring season with an 8-1 defeat of Cal Lutheran Saturday evening.
The Bobcats take a 2-1 record home from California and will next face Smith College on Friday, March 2 at 8pm on the neutral courts of Mount Holyoke.
Bates got out to a 3-0 lead with senior captian Maisie Silverman (Brunswick, Maine) and junior Bella Stone (Concord, Mass.) winning 8-5 at No. 1 doubles; sophomore Lauren Hernandez (Chester, N.J.) and first-year Hannah Sweeney (Franklin, Mass.) taking an 8-3 victory at second doubles; and sophomore Suzanne Elfman (Longmeadow, Mass.) and first-year Haley Washington (Birmingham Hills, Mich.) winning 8-5 at third doubles.
Silverman went on to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Christie Kurdys at No. 1 singles, while the host Regals' Sarah Seeman defeated Stone at second singles. Sweeney, Elfman and Hernandez carried straight-sets victories at third, fourth and fifth singles, respectively, and junior Hannah Londoner (Westport, Conn.) went to a tiebreaker to complete a comeback 2-6, 6-1, 10-5 win over Jade Moore at sixth singles.
