HARTFORD, Conn. -- The No. 18 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team dropped a 5-4 decision to No. 19 Franklin & Marshall Saturday in the semifinal round of Summers Cup (C Division) play at CSA Men's Team Nationals.
Bates (12-5) will face Middlebury (8-12) Sunday at 2pm at the Westminster School in Simsbury, Conn., to decide third place in the bracket and 19th place in the final CSA team rankings. Middlebury edged Bates 5-4 in January.
The Bobcats defeated the Diplomats 7-2 at home on Jan. 27, but Saturday was a different story, as F&M won at the top three positions on the ladder as well as at positions 5 and 8 to earn the upset win.
Bates received its four points from junior Coley Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) over Samm Fulton at No. 4, senior Anirudh Nambiar (Pune, India) at No. 6, sophomore Garon Rothenberg (Brooklyn, N.Y.) at No. 7 and first-year Dylan Muldoon (Devonshire, Bermuda), who prevailed in five games at No. 9.
