LEWISTON, Maine -- No. 7 nationally ranked Wesleyan University ended the Bates women's tennis team's four-match winning streak by a 9-0 score, in the Bobcats' season finale Saturday at Wallach Tennis Center.
Bates finishes 7-11 overall and 4-5 in NESCAC play, the Bobcats' most conference victories since 2010.
The visiting Cardinals (11-3, 5-3 NESCAC) saw their defending NCAA singles champion, Eudice Chong, outlast Bates junior Maisie Silverman (Brunswick, Maine) in a 6-4, 6-3 battle at No. 1 singles, the most competitive match of the day.
Elsewhere, Victoria Yu defeated senior Elizabeth Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2; Helen Klass-Warch topped sophomore Bella Stone (Concord, Mass.) 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3; Nicole McCann defeated first-year Isabelle Rovinski (New York, N.Y.) 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4; Dasha Dubinsky defeated senior Kate Rosenthal (Pittsburgh, Pa.) 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5; and Julia Kim defeated senior Olivia Voccola (Falmouth, Maine) 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
Wesleyan swept doubles play, as Chong and Yu defeated Silverman and Stone 8-2; Klass Warch and McCann topped Erbafina and Rovinski 8-3; and Aashli Budhiraja and Dubinsky defeated Rosenthal and first-year Lauren Hernandez (Chester, N.J.) 8-0 at No. 3.
Senior Day was celebrated in recognition of four Class of 2017 team members, in Erbafina, Natalie Frost (Park City, Utah), Rosenthal and Voccola.
