Matt Chlastawa had four goals and an assist to lead the visiting Bates men's lacrosse team to a 14-7 victory at Trinity College in NESCAC men's lacrosse action Saturday, keeping the No. 8 nationally ranked Bobcats undefeated at 5-0, including a 3-0 conference record.
Trinity (1-3, 0-3 NESCAC) led 2-1 just over six minutes into the game, as Matt Gardiner assisted Jack Sharrio on a man-up, game-tying goal with 9:03 on the clock and scored just 11 seconds later when Scott Morgan won the ensuing faceoff, scooped the ground ball, and fed Gardiner for the score.
Chlastawa (Westfield, Mass.) answered with a game-tying tally for Bates from senior
Andrew Melvin (Medfield, Mass.) at the 7:35 mark of the first quarter, and Bobcat senior
Charlie Fay (Falmouth, Maine) converted on a feed by senior
Kyle Weber (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) with 4:27 left in the opening period, and Bates led the rest of the way. Weber and Chlastawa added two more Bates goal to put Trinity in a 5-2 hole after 15 minutes of play.
Each team scored twice in the second quarter. Sharrio scored a second man-up goal from Gardiner to pull Trinity to within two again at 6-4 with 4:49 remaining before intermission. Weber gave the Bobcats a 7-4 lead at the break with an unassisted tally at the 2:39 mark of the second stanza.
Ferrucci scored for Trinity just under two minutes into the third quarter, but Bates took control with a 6-0 run that spilled into the fourth quarter and included two goals apiece by Chlastawa and Melvin.
