PASADENA, Calif. -- The Bates women's tennis team split their six singles matches with Caltech on Friday but the Beavers won the doubles matches 2-1 to prevail 5-4 over the Bobcats Friday afternoon. 

The Bobcats (1-2) won in convincing fashion at No. 2 doubles. Senior Elizabeth Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) teamed up with first-year Isabelle Rovinski (New York, New York) to defeat Vinci Chen and Sophia Chen by a score of 8-0.

But Bates lost a close 8-6 match at No. 1 doubles and an even closer 9-8 (7) match at No. 3 doubles. 

In singles play, junior Maisie Silverman (Brunswick, Maine) prevailed at No. 1 singles by a count of 6-3, 6-4 over Kana Moriyama.

Rovinski was the only Bates player to win her doubles and her singles match, knocking off Sophia Chen 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.

The Bobcats also showed off their depth by winning at No. 6 singles. Senior Olivia Voccola (Falmouth, Maine) emerged victorious in straight sets over Vinci Chen by a count of 6-4, 7-5.

Bates is back in action on Friday, March 3 when they welcome Brandeis to their home opener. All the action gets started at 4:00 p.m.
