GILBERT, Ariz. -- Junior
Taylor Lough of the No. 20 nationally ranked Bates field hockey team was named Longstreth/NFHCA Division III Honorable Mention Player of the Week Wednesday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, and on the same day, Lough and sophomore teammate
Alexa Jurgeleit were also named ECAC Division III North Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Lough (Little Compton, R.I.) receives the honors a day after also being named NESCAC Player of the Week. Also on Wednesday, she was named Division III Offensive Player of the Week by Synapse Sports.Â
Lough figured in three of Bates' four goals in a remarkable week that included three consecutive victories over top-six nationally ranked teams. She scored the game's first goal in Bates' 2-1 overtime win over No. 2 Babson last Tuesday; assisted on Bates' lone goal in Saturday's 1-0 win over No. 5 Tufts; and scored the lone goal in Sunday's 1-0 victory over No. 6 Amherst.
Jurgeleit (Barrington, R.I.) spearheaded Bates' massive defensive effort, as Bates allowed only seven shots on goal and a single goal over the three games.
Bates entered the national rankings for the first time in more than a decade on Tuesday, appearing at No. 20 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll.
The two NESCAC wins moved Bates (7-5, 4-4 NESCAC) from ninth place in the conference into a four-way tie for fifth place with Amherst, Bowdoin and Colby. Bates defeated Tufts for the first time since 2002. The Bobcats play a non-conference game at Southern Maine on Thursday, then host No. 2 Middlebury this Saturday at noon in the penultimate game of the regular season.
