BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Senior
Samuel Warren earned the victory on the mound and went 4-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and a home run, leading the Bates baseball team to an 11-4 victory at Bowdoin Friday afternoon in a non-conference game recently added to the schedule.
Warren (1-0) went five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and one walk with eight strikeouts.
He wasted no time in helping his own cause, slugging his third home run of the season in the bottom of the first, driving in two runs. Sophomore
Jake Shapiro (Sandy, Utah) tagged an RBI single before the Polar Bears could record the third out.
Junior
Brendan Fox (West Hartford, Conn.) began the Bobcats' scoring in the second inning with a two-run single to right. Warren drove in his third run of the game with a single to center. Shapiro curled a triple down the right field line, driving in two more runs, to give Bates an 8-0 lead.
Bowdoin got on the board in the bottom half of the inning behind a Mullaney single to right that scored Colby Joncas. Brandon Lopez lofted a sacrifice fly to left in the third, scoring Cody Todesco, to double Bowdoin's run count.
Bates junior
Ryan McCarthy (Plaistow, N.H.) hit a solo home run, his third of the season, in the sixth. Fox scored later in the inning, getting hit by a pitch and scoring on a wild pitch.
The Polar Bears matched Bates with two runs in the bottom of the inning off a single by Sean Mullaney (two hits, three RBIs) to center.
Bates added a final run in the ninth, as Warren hit a leadoff double, advanced to third on first-year Daniel Trulli's (Melrose, Mass.) single, and scored on a double play ball by first-year
Jamie Kennedy (Boston, Mass.).
