Stone wins twice as women's tennis falls 6-3 to No. 31 Brandeis

WALTHAM, Mass. -- First-year Bella Stone won at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 singles Sunday but the Bates women's tennis team came up short by a score of 6-3 against No. 31 Brandeis in a non-conference match. 

Stone (Concord, Mass.) teamed up with junior Elizabeth Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) at No. 1 doubles to defeat Haley Cohen and Olivia Leavitt 8-1. 

Stone finished her outstanding day with a win at No. 3 singles, dispatching Keren Khromchenko in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. 

Brandeis recovered to win at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Although sophomore Maisie Silverman (Brunswick, Maine) and junior Kate Rosenthal (Pittsburgh, Pa.) stayed very competitive at No. 2 doubles, falling 8-5 to Charlotte Aaron and Sophia He.

After her close doubles match, Silverman broke through at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 over Cohen.  

Bates fell short at No. 2, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles as Brandeis was able to pull away for the win.

The Bobcats return to NESCAC play on Sunday, April 17 when they host Connecticut College at 10:00 a.m.
