LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates women's tennis team swept each set in a 9-0 non-conference victory over Colby-Sawyer College on Sunday afternoon in Merrill Gym.
The visiting Chargers dropped to 14-3 with the loss, while the host Bobcats (3-2) won for the third time in four matches since the spring season began.
Colby-Sawyer made the first doubles match the most competitive one of the day, with Ashlyn Ramsay and Ashley Woodside falling 8-5 to Bates junior Elizabeth Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) and first-year Bella Stone (Concord, Mass.).
Sophomore Maisie Silverman (Brunswick, Maine) posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Ramsay at first singles, after teaming with junior Kate Rosenthal (Pittsburgh, Pa.) for an 8-1 win at second doubles.
Stone dropped only one game in her victory at third singles.
Senior Emma Blakeley (Hope, Maine) won 6-1, 6-1 at fifth singles after teaming with senior Emma Mattson (Dana Point, Calif.) for an 8-3 win at third doubles.
Junior Olivia Voccola (Falmouth, Maine) notched a shutout 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles.
Bates opens NESCAC play on Saturday, March 12 at Middlebury, with a 5pm start.
