Baseball shut out at Webber International

BABSON PARK, Fla. -- Samuel Warren tallied a single and a stolen base but the Bates baseball team fell 12-0 at NAIA institution Webber International University Friday night.

The Warriors (16-10) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. In the top of the first inning they scored four runs off Bates (3-3) starter Chris Krawczyk '19 (Chevy Chase, Md.).

With two outs and nobody on, Ramon Sanchez drew a walk. Another walk and a hit by pitch later, Sjaghbar Martis drew a walk to force in a run. Daniel Timmons followed with a bases clearing double to put the Warriors up 4-0.

The Warriors put the game away with eight runs in the second inning against Bates reliever Connor Russell '18 (Cumberland, Maine). Lenin Sanchez bunted his way aboard to start the inning and Derrick Pezon tripled him home. Ramon Sanchez singled in Pezon and a double and a dropped third strike netted another run for the Warriors to make it 7-0. Timmons' two-RBI single extended the lead to 9-0 and with two outs Daniel Alves doubled in another run. Pezon added an RBI double and Sanchez contributed another RBI single to complete the scoring.

Mark Cunningham '16 (Canton, Mass.) tossed three innings of shutout baseball out of the bullpen and Andrew Freeman '18 (Newton, Mass.) contributed a shutout inning of relief as well.

The Bobcats tallied four hits in the contest. Besides Warren '16 (Norfolk, Va.), John Dinucci '17 (West Hartford, Conn.), Brendan Fox '17 (West Hartford, Conn.) and Eric Vilanova '17 (Bridgeport, Conn.) also picked up singles for Bates.
