BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Marcus Delpeche scored a team-high 12 points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds but Bowdoin got 27 points from Jack Simonds to defeat the Bobcats 73-51 Tuesday night.
The game does not count in the NESCAC standings.
Delpeche '17 (Wilmington, Del.) shot 5-6 from the field and tallied his 12 points in only 16 minutes of action on the court.
Meanwhile Mike Boornazian '16 (Portland, Conn.) tallied nine points and dished out a game-high six assists.
But the Polar Bears (10-10) got an explosive performance from Simonds. His game-high 27 points came on 11-15 shooting. He also hauled in a game-high nine rebounds. Lucas Hausman chipped in 17 points on 5-11 shooting.
Bates (10-13) struggled from the field, shooting just over 30% and they hit only 17.4% (4-17) of their threes. Another big difference is the game was free throw shooting. The Polar Bears sank 14-15 free throws while Bates only made three of nine from the stripe.
After trailing by seven at halftime, Bates cut the deficit to four with 15:52 remaining on a Marcus Delpeche dunk.
But the Polar Bears went on a 10-0 run to go up by 14 with 11:03 to go. That run sealed the deal for the Polar Bears who held the Bobcats to under 30% shooting in the second half.
Bates plays their final regular season game of the year on Sunday at Williams. Opening tip is set for 2:00 p.m.
