HARTFORD, Conn. -- The No. 17 Bates men's squash team fell to No. 1 Trinity 7-2 Sunday afternoon in the NESCAC Championship Final.
In their first NESCAC Championships Final in program history, the Bobcats took two matches from the Bantams.
Ahmed Abdel Khalek '16 (Cairo, Egypt) won his 58th consecutive match, beating Rick Penders at the No. 1 position 3-0 (11-5, 11-3, 11-6). At the No. 2 position, Ahmed Hatata '17 (Alexandria, Egypt) defeated Juan Vargas 11-6 in the first set and Vargas retired with the score 8-8 in the second set.
Senior co-captain Caran Arora (Mumbai, India) battled Affeeq Ismail at the No. 4 position, taking the second set 11-8 before falling in four sets.
Trinity swept the other six matches they won on Sunday to take home the NESCAC title.
The men's squash team heads to Rochester for the Rochester Invitational this Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
