CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team defeated Bates 9-0 on Friday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
Going up against one of the top teams in the country on their home courts, Bates (1-2) fought hard at No. 1 doubles with Elizabeth Erbafina '17 (Sudbury, Mass.) and first-year Bella Stone (Concord, Mass.) falling 8-2 to the combination of Caroline Ward and Katie Kuosman.
In singles, Bates ran into some bad luck when Maisie Silverman '18 (Brunswick, Maine) had to retire during the first set against Ward while trailing 5-2 at No. 1 singles.
Erbafina had the most success in singles, winning a total of four games at No. 2 singles before falling to Kuosman 6-2, 6-2.
Stone won the most games in any individual set, falling to Lindsay Brown at No. 3 singles 6-3 in the first set before dropping set two 6-0.
The Bates women's tennis team is back in action on Saturday, March 5 when they visit Mount Holyoke for a 1:00 p.m. match.
