No. 17 men's squash defeats No. 23 Hobart 6-3 in regular season finale

GENEVA, N.Y. -- Ahmed Abdel Khalek won his 59th consecutive match and the No. 17 Bates men's squash team knocked off No. 23 Hobart 6-3 Sunday morning.

A planned match with Hamilton later in the day was cancelled due to travel issues so the Bobcats finish the 2015-2016 regular season with a 12-7 record.

The Bobcats will play in the College Squash Association's Team Championships February 26-28 in New Haven, Connecticut. What division they'll play in at the team championships will be determined later this week.

Abdel Khalek '16 (Cairo, Egypt) defeated Hobart's Josh Oakley at the No. 1 position 3-0 (11-3, 11-1, 11-1) to finish the regular season undefeated for the third consecutive year.

The defending individual national champion was backed up on Sunday by Darrius Campbell '17 (St. Stephen, S.C.) at the No. 2 position and senior co-captain Caran Arora (Mumbai, India) at the No. 3 position.

Campbell defeated Beau Orchard 3-1 (7-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-9) and Arora took care of Felipe Pantle 3-1 as well (11-5, 11-1, 9-11, 11-1).

Playing at the No. 9 position, Stefan Joseph '17 (Tortola, British Virgin Islands) picked up the only sweep for Bates besides Abdel Khalek's three-set win. He defeated Gabriel Garcia 3-0 (12-10, 12-10, 11-4).

The most dramatic win of the match belonged to junior co-captain Spencer Burt (Portland, Ore.) at the No. 8 position. It took five sets, and he had to come back from a 2-1 deficit, but Burt defeated Danny Cabrera 3-2 (9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-6, 11-7).

First-year Coley Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) continued his strong play as of late with a 3-1 (10-12, 11-6, 12-10, 11-7) win over Terrance Rose at the No. 5 position.

With the win, Bates finishes the regular season having won seven of their last eight matches.
