LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates volleyball team attacked at a season-high .336 percentage in sweeping Wesleyan University 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-17) Friday night at Alumni Gymnasium.
The match was Bates' (5-9, 2-3 NESCAC) second win in as many years over the Cardinals (8-4, 3-3 NESCAC), and it was Wesleyan's third straight loss, all against conference opponents. Bates hosts Trinity College Saturday at 1pm in another NESCAC match, while Wesleyan plays at NESCAC rival Colby Saturday at 10am.
Senior Chandler McGrath (Seal Beach, Calif.) led Bates' offense with one of the best performances of her career, including 19 kills and one attack error on 30 attempts, a .600 percentage. First-year Taylor Stafford-Smith (Calabasas, Calif.) notched 10 kills with no errors on 24 attempts for a .417 percentage, and junior Lisa Slivken (New York, N.Y.) had nine kills and no errors on 21 attempts (.429).
Sophomore Claire Naughton (Darien, Conn.) contributed eight more kills with two errors on 19 attempts (.316), and her solo block finished off Bates' first-set win.
Junior setter Jacqueline Forney (Bloomington, Ind.) kept the Bobcats humming with 45 assists and 15 digs.
Gabby Bennett led the Cardinals with nine kills on a .444 attack percentage, and Nicole Hilton had nine kills with a .263 attack percentage. Kaira Muraoka had 26 assists, nine digs and two kills. Olivia Guidotti and Madeleine Lundberg led the back row with 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
