CASTINE, Maine -- Junior Nate Merchant scored three goals and senior Peabo Knoth added two as the Bates men's soccer team rolled to a 7-0 non-conference win at Maine Maritime Academy on Sunday afternoon.

Juniors Matt DiVite (Murray Hill, N.J.) and Justin Yacovino (North Bergen, N.J.) also scored for the Bobcats (5-6-2), who capped off a 2-0 week.

Merchant (Los Angeles, Calif.), who also notched an assist on DiVite's goal, has scored five goals in Bates' past two games, including both of the Bobcats' scores in Wednesday's 2-1 win at Thomas. He leads Bates with seven goals this season and has 12 in his career.

Knoth (Portland, Maine) scored his first two goals this season, giving him 19 in his career.

Bates edged Maine Maritime 1-0 last season in Lewiston and fell 2-0 to the Mariners in 2014, their last trip to Castine. But on Sunday, the Bobcats led 1-0 before five minutes had expired, and 4-0 after 39 minutes.

Knoth opened the scoring with 40:45 left in the first half with an unassisted tally, with a shot that hit the left post and ricocheted into the net. Merchant scored the next two in the 21st and 25th minutes -- the former on a direct kick, and the latter with first-year Peder Bakken (Seattle, Wash.) notching the game's only credited assist on the latter score.

Yacovino made it 4-0 in the 39th minute with his first goal this season, with first-year defender Beaufils Kimpolo-Pene (Bronx, N.Y.) earning his first career assist on the play.

Bates fired off three more goals in an 11-minute span during the second half. DiVite scored his third goal of the year to make it 5-0 in the 61st minute, before Merchant and Knoth tacked on their final goals in the 65th and 72nd minutes, respectively. Merchant's third goal was assisted by senior captain Luke McNabb (Glastonbury, Conn.), and sophomore Morgan Dewdney (Meriden, N.H.) was credited with his first career assist on Knoth's final tally.

Bates outshot MMA by a 49-6 margin in the game, including a 24-3 difference in shots on goal. The Bobcats also had a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.

Bates sophomore goalie Robbie Montanaro (Belmont, Mass.) made two saves in 68:45 of action. First-year Owen Lindenfeldar (Pennington, N.J.) made one save in his collegiate debut, playing 21:15 in goal and splitting the shutout. Andrew Coleman made nine saves in the first half for MMA, and Marshall Spear made eight in the second.

The Bobcats next play at NESCAC rival Middlebury on Saturday at 11am.
