AMHERST, Mass. -- The No. 17 Bates men's squash team's top four positions all went undefeated Sunday as they wrapped up the Pioneer Valley Invitational with a 5-4 loss to No. 15 Navy in the morning and a 8-1 win over No. 22 Amherst in the afternoon.

Two-time All-American Ahmed Hatata '17 (Alexandria, Egypt), Darrius Campbell '17 (St. Stephen, S.C.) and Caran Arora '16 (Mumbai, India) all won a pair of matches Sunday.

The Navy match was particularly close with two of Bates' wins coming in five sets and two of Navy's wins coming in four sets.

Defending national champion Ahmed Abdel Khalek '16 (Cairo, Egypt) won at the No. 1 position in straight sets against Jack Herald of Navy and did not participate in the match against Amherst.

Consequently everyone moved up one spot for the Amherst match and Anirudh Nambiar '18 (Bangalore, India) impressed by winning at the No. 4 position 3-1 (11-5, 11-7, 13-15, 11-6).

The rest of the team shined as well, cruising to an 8-1 win. The extra spot opened up the No. 9 position for Stefan Joseph '17 (Tortola, British Virgin Islands) and he took advantage by winning 3-0 (11-5, 11-3, 11-5).

The men's squash team is back in action Sunday, January 24 as they take on Franklin & Marshall at Harvard University at 10:00 a.m.
