LEWISTON, Maine -- Kim Donaldson had 11 kills and four blocks to lead Colby College to a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-20) New England Small College Athletic Conference victory over the Bates College volleyball team Friday night in Alumni Gymnasium, in a battle of rivals who both entered the match unbeaten in NESCAc play.

It was the fourth straight win for the Mules (6-3, 3-0 NESCAC), while Bates (4-5, 2-1 NESCAC) saw its own four-match winning streak come to an end.

Donaldson committed just one attack error on 24 attack attempts, for a .417 percentage. The senior middle blocker shared NESCAC Co-Player of the Week honors this week with Bates junior outside hitter Chandler McGrath (Seal Beach, Calif.), who led the Bobcats with 10 kills and tied for the team lead with 16 digs, for her fourth double-double of the season.

Erin Maidman had seven kills and 10 digs for the Mules. Sarah Arvidson had six kills and 12 digs, while Alexa Busser added six kills with four blocks. Emily Moslener (17 assists) and Molly Manuel (13) split setting duties and Natalie Roy pitched in with a match-high 19 digs.

Bates attacked at a season-low .000 percentage, matching its 30 kills as a team with 30 attack errors. McGrath (32 attempts, five errors) hit at a .156 clip for the match. Firsty-year Claire Naughton (Darien, Conn.) added nine kills against eight errors with two blocks, and junior Nicole Peraica (East Northport, N.Y.) contributed six kills against four errors as well as a pair of blocks. First-year Reilly Murphy (Marshfield, Mass) had a match-high five blocks (two solo) for the Bobcats.

Junior Hannah Tardie (Orange, Calif.) also had a double-double for Bates, with 14 assists and 16 digs. Sophomore Jacqueline Forney (Bloomington, Ind.) had 13 assists and senior Laryssa Schepel (Flemington, N.J.) had 14 digs with four service aces.

Colby led the first set 19-15 before Bates scored five in a row on sophomore Augy Silver's (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) serving to take the lead at 20-19. Colby came back and led 24-22 on a Donaldson kill, then clinched the set on a Bates attack error.

Bates jumped out to a 14-8 lead in the second set before an 8-1 Colby run put the Mules in front 16-15. Arvidson came up with back-to-back kills to start a decisive, late 4-0 run for the Mules, going from 21-20 down to a 24-21 lead. Donaldson hammered down the final point for a 2-0 Colby lead.

Bates again got out to a slight early lead in the third set, up to 11-8, but Colby stormed back with seven in a row on Noyes' service, with five Bates attack errors and a pair of kills by Busser. The teams traded points until Colby scored the final four of the match, finishing with an ace by Noyes and two straight attack errors by Bates.

Bates will play a pair of matches at Bowdoin on Saturday, facing Worcester State at 11am before taking on the host Polar Bears at 2pm in a NESCAC match.
