Box Score BANGOR, Maine - The Bates Bobcats volleyball team (6-8) got kills from 10 different players on their way to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-10) win over Husson (7-15) on Tuesday.
Junior outside hitter Chandler McGrath tallied a team-high seven kills while sophomore setter Jacqueline Forney dished out a team-best 21 assists. Meanwhile defensively it was sophomore Augy Silver coming up big for the Bobcats with 32 digs, her second highest total in one game this season.
Bates had a narrow 10-8 lead in the first set before taking command as Brynn Wendel, Nicole Peraica (back-to-back), McGrath and Reilly Murphy all notched kills as part of an 8-0 run.
Bates would then proceed to finish the first set on a 6-0 run as Silver ended it with a service ace.
The Bobcats actually trailed 12-11 in the second set before going on a 6-0 run and forcing Husson to call a timeout. The balanced attack continued during this run as Lisa Slivken, Maggie Paulich and Claire Naughton all delivered kills with Silver tallying another service ace as well. Silver finished the night with a match-high three service aces. Set two would narrow to an 18-15 lead for Bates until they went on another run, this time scoring four unanswered points as Laryssa Schepel tallied back-to-back service aces as part of the run. The set would conclude on back-to-back attack errors by Husson.
In the third set the Bobcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never trailed on their way to a dominating sweep. Husson would cut the deficit to 5-4 before Bates went on a 7-0 run. Four different players tallied kills during the 7-0 run and Silver tallied her third and final ace of the match.
An 8-0 run concluded the match as Gabby O'Leary provided the final kill of the evening.
The win snaps a three-match losing streak for the Bobcats. Bates volleyball is back in action Friday night as they visit Tufts. The match starts at 7:00 p.m.
