LEWISTON, Maine - The Bates Bobcats men's soccer team (5-2-1, 2-2-1) and Trinity College (3-4-2, 1-4-1) combined to score all their goals in the first half Saturday afternoon as Trinity edged Bates by a final score of 2-1.
The loss is the Bobcats' first home defeat of the season.
Trinity got on the board first in just the second minute of action as Dan O'Neil kicked in a deflection in front of the net past Bates keeper Sam Polito to put Trinity up 1-0.
Bates responded in the 34th minute as Max Watson headed in a cross from Noah Riskind to even the match at one. It's Watson's first goal of the season after he scored four last year.
But Trinity took the lead for good late in the first half in the 43rd minute as Tobias Gimand took advantage of some chaos in front of the net to put Trinity up 2-1.
Neither team scored in the second half. Trinity keeper Domenic Quade made six saves on the day.
The Bobcats will look to get back in the win column Tuesday night as they take on Maine Maritime at 8:00 p.m. at Garcelon Field.
