Men's soccer drops decision to second-ranked Amherst

LEWISTON, Maine -- Amherst's Nico Pascual-Leone scored all three of his team's goals on Sunday in a 3-0 loss for the Bates men's soccer team.

The Bobcats (7-4-1, 2-4-1) didn't match up well against the bigger and faster second-ranked and undefeated Lord Leffs (12-0-0, 7-0-0).

Pascual-Leone scored his first goal when another shot deflected off the gloves of Bates keeper Sam Polito. The ball found the foot of Pascual-Leone and he drilled it into the back of the net in the 22nd minute to give Amherst a 1-0 lead.

Playing without leading scorer Peabo Knoth, Bates struggled offensively, tallying eight shots but only three shots on goal.

Polito made eight saves between the pipes for the Bobcats. But Pascual-Leone scored twice in the second half to give Amherst some breathing room.

Jackson Lehnhart assisted Pascual-Leone on both his second half goals, one in the 50th minute and a cross in the 71st minute of action that led to a spectacular finish into the upper-right of the net.

Drew Munoz, Luis Pereira and David Dick all tallied shots on goal for the Bobcats.

The men's soccer team welcomes Middlebury to town on Saturday for the final home regular season match of the season. The match gets started at 2:00.
