SOUTH HADLEY and AMHERST, Mass. -- The No. 14 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team defeated longtime rival and 12th-ranked Navy 5-4 on Saturday at Mount Holyoke College, before heading to nearby Amherst College and defeating the Lord Jeffs by an 8-1 score.

Bates (6-3) takes on Williams on Sunday to wrap up the weekend's action in Western Massachusetts.

The Bobcats had their two top players, junior Ahmed Abdel Khalek (Cairo, Egypt) and sophomore Ahmed Hatata (Alexandria, Egypt), together in the lineup for the first time since the 2013-14 season, and for the first time, it was Hatata taking the No. 1 position on the ladder, with Abdel Khalek at No. 2. The result for the team was much the same, as both players swept their respective opponents by 3-0 scores in both matches.

Junior Caran Arora (Mumbai, India) swept Reed Whitney at No. 6 for a third Bates point.

The Midshipmen won at 3 through 5, with Bates sophomore Darrius Campbell (St. Stephen, S.C.) and senior Nabil Saleem (Alpharetta, Ga.) both falling by 3-2 scores. Bates took two 3-2 decisions of its own, however, with senior Jason Shrubb (Hamilton, Bermuda) putting away Navy's John Hsu 10-12, 11-6, 11-7, 7-11, 11-9 at No. 7, and sophomore Spencer Burt (Portland, Ore.) defeating Navy's Sam McCartney 11-7, 5-11, 11-4, 8-11, 11-9 at No. 9. 

After their first 5-4 win of the season, Bates traveled to NESCAC rival Amherst and took care of business in relatively simple fashion, earning six of their eight points with 3-0 sweeps over the Lord Jeffs. Hatata, Abdel Khalek, Campbell, senior Andy Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.), Shrubb and Burt all swept their opponents. Saleem and sophomore Carlos Ames (Williamstown, Mass.) both endured their second 3-2 decisions of the day, with both scoring the victory the second time around.
