HARTFORD, Conn. -- No. 15 nationally ranked Trinity College blanked the visiting Bates women's tennis team, 9-0, in a NESCAC match Friday afternoon at the Assaiante Tennis Center.
With the win, the Bantams snapped a three-match losing streak to end the regular season with a 9-7 record and a 3-4 mark in league play. The Bobcats dropped their fifth straight, all against Top 30 teams, to fall to 7-8 on the year and 2-4 in conference matches.
Trinity swept doubles play as the tandem of Melita Ferjanic and Morgan Feldman won, 8-1, at No. 1. The duo of Senzo Mavune-Maphisa and Regan Cherna cruised to an 8-0 triumph at No. 2. The Bantams swept the doubles points despite a game effort at the No. 3 matchup, with Bates senior captain Lucy Brennan (Freeport, Maine) and sophomore Emma Blakeley (Hope, Maine) falling 8-6 to Elizabeth Gerber and Caroline Gagne.
Bates junior Elena Mandzhukova (Lisbon, Portugal) and first-year Elizabeth Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) both played very competitive singles matches, at first and third singles, respectively. Mandzhukova took Ferjanic into extra games, while Erbafina won the first set from Mophisa at No. 3, then was edged in a third-set tiebreaker.
The Bobcats play a final NESCAC opponent at Wesleyan on Sunday at 2pm to finish up the season.
