MEDFORD, Mass. – First-year Elizabeth Erbafina won at third singles, but Bates College women's tennis fell to No. 18 Tufts University, 8-1, at Voute Courts on Saturday evening.
The Jumbos (9-7, 5-3 NESCAC) swept the three doubles matches and won four singles matchups in straight sets over the Bobcats (7-7, 2-3 NESCAC)
Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) defeated Tufts' Conner Calabro, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 10-6 while Erbafina and junior Elena Mandzhukova (Lisbon, Portugal) almost won at first doubles before falling 8-6.
Mandzhukova lost in three sets at first singles, 7-6 (3), 1-6, 10-8, and senior Kristen Doerer (Madison, Conn.) nearly took a set in a 7-5, 6-3 loss at fourth singles.
Next, Bates plays at Trinity on Friday at 4 p.m.
