LEWISTON, Maine – No. 4 nationally-ranked Amherst College women's tennis topped Bates College, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Wallach Tennis Center.
The Bobcats (7-4, 2-1 NESCAC) fell to the Lord Jeffs (10-3, 2-0 NESCAC) after the visitors lost earlier in the day to Emory, 8-1, in a match hosted at Bowdoin College.
Senior Kristen Doerer (Madison, Conn.) stayed on court the longest for the Bobcats before eventually dropping a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Amherst sophomore Sarah Monteagudo (Miami, Fla.)
First-year Elizabeth Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) won three games in a 6-3, 6-0 loss at third singles while the duo of senior Lucy Brennan (Freeport, Maine) and junior Alexandra Hakusui (Boxford, Mass.) won a game in an 8-1 loss at third doubles.
Next, Bates hosts Bowdoin on Wednesday at 7 p.m. while Amherst hosts Tufts on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
