SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Four players won both their doubles matches and singles matches as Bates College women's tennis defeated Mount Holyoke College, 7-2, on Saturday at the MHC Field House.
The Bobcats (4-1) swept the three doubles matches then won four of six matches in singles competition to beat the host Lyons (6-7).
Junior Elena Mandzhukova (Lisbon Portugal) and first-year Elizabeth Erbafina (Sudbury, Mass.) won in first doubles, 8-5, senior Kristen Doerer (Madison, Conn.) and junior Alexandra Hakusui (Boxford, Mass.) took a victory on court No. 2, 8-2, and sophomore Emma Blakeley (Hope, Maine) and classmate Eleanor Hough (Summit, N.J.) picked up an 8-4 win on court No. 3.
Mandzukova then won her singles match at the No. 1 spot, 6-4, 6-0, while her doubles partner Erbafina captured a 6-0, 6-0 win in second singles.
Following suit, Doerer snagged a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the No. 3 position, and Hakusui recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win on court No. 6.
Next, Bates hosts Hamilton College in its NESCAC opener on March 9 at 10 a.m.
