PRINCETON, N.J. – Bates College women's squash won two matches and pushed another three to four games but lost to Columbia University, 7-2, in the semifinal round of the Kurtz Cup (B Division) in the CSA Team Championships at Princeton University's Jadwin Gym on Saturday afternoon.
The No. 12 Bobcats (12-7) will play No. 10 Brown University in the 11th-place game tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. while the No. 9 Lions (8-6) advance to the ninth-place game vs. No. 11 George Washington tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.
Bates lost to Brown earlier this season, 5-4, at the Bates Squash Center on Jan. 17.
Junior Nessrine Ariffin (Penang, Malaysia) earned a win on court No. 1 for the Bobcats with an 11-5, 11-1, 11-8 victory over Colette Sultana.
Senior Ashley Brooks (Roslindale, Mass.) captured the team's other point, outlasting Reyna Pacheco at the No. 4 spot, 11-7, 4-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8.
Junior Myriam Kelly (Bronx, N.Y.), sophomore Lauren Williams (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe), and Charlotte Cabot (Dover, Mass.) each pushed her opponent to four games at the No. 2, 8, and 9 positions respectively before falling.
