BOSTON -- The Bates men's squash team completed a memorable 2014 CSA Team Championships with a 6-3 victory over Williams on Sunday at Northeastern University, to win the Hoehn Cup (B Division) consolation bracket.

Despite entering the tournament with a season-low No. 16 national ranking and earning last seed in the Hoehn Cup draw, Bates (13-7) defeated a more highly-ranked opponent for the second straight day. Bates defeated No. 13 Navy on Saturday in the bracket semifinals, 7-2.

Bates also wins the rubber match of the rivals' three-match series this year. Bates defeated Williams 6-3 at home on Jan. 11, but Williams avenged that with a 5-4 win in the NESCAC Championship semifinals on Feb. 1 at Hamilton. Bates took on No. 9 Princeton, led by first-year head coach and Bates alumnus Sean Wilkinson, in the opening round of Hoehn Cup play on Friday and fell 8-1 to the Tigers.

For the second straight day, senior captain Kristian Muldoon (Hamilton, Bermuda) defeated an opponent who had beaten him earlier this season. At the No. 3 position in the lineup, Muldoon dropped the first set to Taylor Foehl, who swept Muldoon 3-0 two weeks ago. Muldoon then roared back with an 11-3 win in the second set, and went on to win the next two 11-6, 11-8 for one of the match's crucial points.

Sophomore Ahmed Abdel Khalek (Cairo, Egypt) rose to 17-0 this season with a 3-1 win over Kevin Chen at No. 1, and first-year Ahmed Sherif Hatata (Alexandria, Egypt) took care of business with a 3-1 win at No. 2.

In another repeat performance from Saturday, junior Nabil Saleem (Alpharetta, Ga.), sophomore Caran Arora (Mumbai, India) and junior Andy Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) swept positions 5, 6 and 7 for the Bobcats, with Arora and Cannon both prevailing 3-2 and Saleem winning 3-1.

The season concludes Feb. 28 through Mar. 2 at the CSA Individual Championships, held at the University of Pennsylvania.
