MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The No. 13 nationally ranked Bates men's squash team capped a 3-1 opening weekend with a pair of victories over NESCAC opponents Wesleyan and Hamilton on Sunday, 6-3 over the host and 20th-ranked Cardinals and 9-0 against the No. 24 Continentals.

Bates (3-1) also defeated No. 25 Connecticut College on Saturday at Trinity, after opening the year with an 8-1 loss to the No. 3 Bantams in Hartford.

Junior Ahmed Abdel Khalek (Cairo, Egypt) was a flawless 4-0 without dropping a single game against the No. 1 player from all four opponents: Trinity senior Vrishab Kotian, Conn's Matthew Lillie, Wesleyan's Guy Davidson and Hamilton's Ted Black. The two-time NESCAC Player of the Year raised his career record to 44-2 over the weekend. Abdel Khalek was responsible for Bates' lone point against Trinity.

Without sophomore All-American Ahmed Hatata (Alexandria, Egypt) in the lineup, sophomore Darrius Campbell (St. Stephen, S.C.) slid up a spot to No. 2 and his teammates followed suit. Campbell was 3-1 at the 2 spot on the ladder, including straight-game wins scores against Conn and Hamilton. The same was the case for senior captains Andy Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) at No. 3. 

Junior captain Caran Arora (Mumbai, India), sophomore Carlos Ames (Williamstown, Mass.) and first-year Anirudh Nambiar (Bangalore, India) were also all 3-1 for the weekend, at the 5, 6 and 9 positions on the ladder, respectively. Campbell and Arora both won in five games against Wesleyan, helping the Bobcats avert an upset.

Bates will play host to No. 9 Penn this Saturday, Nov. 22, at 11am for the Bobcats' home opener.
