Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby battled back from a six-point deficit in the third set for a victory after winning the first two sets, in a 3-0 victory against the Bates volleyball team on Friday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium.
The Mules move to 12-10 overall and 2-6 in NESCAC play to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Bates (9-14, 0-8) next plays at Wesleyan on Friday at 8pm, followed by the regular-season finale at Trinity on Saturday at 2pm.
After easing to 25-18 and 25-9 wins in the opening two sets, the Mules fell behind 14-8 in the third set after a Colby service error. Bates still led 18-15, but the Mules battled back to tie the match at 19-19 and 20-20. Colby finally went ahead at 21-20 on a block by Kim Donaldson and Emily Moslener. The Mules scored five straight points to go up 24-20 and closed out the match at 25-21.
Sophomore Chandler McGrath (Seal Beach, Calif.) paced Bates with five kills, while senior Tess Walther (Santa Monica, Calif.) added 12 assists and seven digs. First-year outside hitter Lisa Slivken (New York, N.Y.) finished with four kills, junior Laryssa Schepel (Flemington, N.J.) had eight digs, and junior Brynn Wendel (Boxford, Mass.) had three kills and two blocks.
Kate Wincek had 10 kills on 18 total attacks and no errors to lead Colby. She also was tied for the team lead in service aces with three. Donaldson also had 10 kills and added five blocks. Moslener dished 26 assists, had a pair of kills, and three blocks. Megan Michie, who was honored on Colby Senior Night, added three aces and had six digs.
