LEWISTON, Maine – Senior captain
Kristian Muldoon won on court No. 3 in his final home match as Bates College men's squash beat Colby College, 9-0, on Wednesday night at the Bates Squash Center on the team's senior night.
The 13th-ranked Bobcats (9-5) took seven of the nine matches in straight sets against the 23rd-ranked Mules (8-9).
Muldoon (Paget, Bermuda) pulled out his victory in four sets, 11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 11-3, over Yuga Koda of Colby. Ahead of Muldoon, sophomore Ahmed Abdel Khalek (Cairo, Egypt) and first-year Ahmed Hatata (Alexandria, Egypt) won in straight sets on court Nos. 1 and 2 respectively.
Junior Nabil Saleem (Alpharetta, Ga.) and classmate and captain Andy Cannon (Greenwich, Conn.) captured victories at the No. 4 and 5 spots in order with sophomore Caran Arora (Mumbai, India) following at No. 6. All three players swept their opponents in straight sets.
In the bottom third of the ladder a trio of first years garnered victories – Darrius Campbell (St. Stephen, S.C.) at No. 7, Nima Olumi (Newton, Mass.) at No. 8, and Carlos Ames (Williamstown, Mass.) in the No. 9 spot.
Next, second-seeded Bates opens NESCAC Championship play at Hamilton College on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. against the winner of seventh-seeded Amherst and 10th-seeded Connecticut College.
