WATERVILLE, Maine – First-year Chandler McGrath notched a team-high 15 kills to lead Bates College volleyball past Colby College 3-2 (23-25, 26-24, 13-25, 26-24, 15-12) inside Wadsworth Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

After dropping the first set, the Bobcats (8-10, 1-3 NESCAC) won set two in extra points before conceding set three to the Mules (5-8, 1-3). The visitors proceeded to capture the fourth set in extra points once again and to take the deciding set with a 5-2 run to close.

McGrath (Seal Beach, Calif.) and classmate Gabby O'Leary (Wynnewood, Pa.) each posted three kills in the final set with McGrath landing a kill on the set's final point. O'Leary totaled eight kills in the match.

Sophomore Brynn Wendel (Boxford, Mass.) recorded 10 kills while classmates Abby Leberman (Concord, N.H.) and Mary Deneen (Windsor, Conn.) each had seven. Leberman also made 15 digs in the match.

Libero Laryssa Schepel (Flemington, N.J.), also a sophomore, registered a match-high 27 digs – her seventh match this season with 20 or more digs.

Junior captain and setter Tess Walther (Santa Monica, Calif.) tallied a match-high 31 assists to go with 15 digs for her second double-double of the year. Classmate and co-captain Miranda Shapiro (New York, N.Y.) dished out 18 assists.

For the hosts, Natalie Roy compiled 15 kills, Kate Pleasants handed out 30 assists, and Anna Clifford had 12 digs.

Next weekend, Bates hosts Tufts on Friday at 8 p.m. and Connecticut College on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Dig Pink! matches.
