Box Score 2 PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Bates College volleyball beat Plymouth State University, 3-1, after falling to Eastern Connecticut State University, 3-1, in a pair of matches at Foley Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats (11-15) defeated the Panthers (14-14) in four sets – 27-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-14 – prior to losing to the Warriors (13-13) in four frames – 8-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-21. In the day's first match at Foley Gym, PSU beat ECSU, 3-1 (25-15, 24-26, 25-22, 25-21).
In the team's win over Plymouth St., first-year Chandler McGrath (Seal Beach, Calif.) notched a team-high 14 kills with no errors on 26 swings for a .500 hitting percentage. Sophomore Brynn Wendel (Boxford, Mass.) tallied nine kills on .562 hitting, and first-year Nicole Peraica (East Northport, N.Y.) posted eight kills on .429 hitting.
Junior setter and co-captain Tess Walther (Santa Monica, Calif.) dished out 25 assists while fellow junior and co-captain Miranda Shapiro (New York, N.Y.) had 14 assists. Defensively, sophomore Abby Leberman (Concord, N.H.) made 12 digs, and classmate Laryssa Schepel (Flemington, N.J.) recorded 10 digs.
The Bobcats hit .356 as a team in the match with a .652 hitting percentage in the decisive set. The Panthers hit .227 as a team with Jana Nieman landing a match-high 15 kills on .433 hitting.
Against Eastern Conn. St., McGrath led all players with 16 kills while Wendel followed closely with 10 kills. Walther registered her fifth double-double of the season on 26 assists and 16 digs while Schepel had 12 digs.
Adrianna Mihalek paced the Warriors with 12 kills, Jess Patrizi handed out 30 assists, and Alli Luppi had 15 digs.
Next, Bates returns to NESCAC play at Hamilton on Friday at 8 p.m. and at Middlebury on Saturday at 3 p.m.
