Wilson earns All-Tournament honors as men's hoops team falls

CLINTON, N.Y. -- The Bates College men's basketball team accepted an 85-66 defeat at the hands of Hamilton College on Saturday in the championship game of the Hamilton Tipoff Tournament.

Harlee Wood scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help lead the Continentals (2-0) on their home floor at Margaret Bundy Scott Field House.

Junior guard Marshall Hatch (Chicago, Ill.) and sophomore forward Alex Gallant (Bangor, Maine) paced Bates (1-1) with 14 points apiece, each scoring in double figures for the second time in as many days. Gallant added 5 rebounds, while Hatch hit 4 of 10 shots from behind the arc.

Junior guard Chris Wilson (Brewer, Maine) enjoyed a fine all-around game with 13 points, 10 rebounds and six assists before he fouled out late in the second half. The Bobcats shot just 38 percent from the field. Junior Sean Wirth (Barrington, R.I.) chipped in with 6 points, 4 rebounds and a blocked shot, while junior Jimmy O'Keefe (Lexington, Mass.) added 8 points.

Russ Rosenband came off the bench to pour in 17 points for the Continentals for the second time in as many days. Lance Wilson chipped in 12 and Patrick Sullivan and Tim Shaw added 11 apiece as Hamilton placed five players in double figures in points. The Continentals shot 52 percent from the floor and made half of their 14 three-point attempts.

Hamilton led by just two points at 30-28 with 5:29 left in the first half. The Continentals closed the half with a 14-3 run and took a 44-31 advantage into the break. Shaw scored six points during the run. Bates didn't get its deficit into single digits throughout the second half.

Wilson earned All-Tournament Team honors for the Bobcats. The co-captain averaged 10.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists in the two games.

Bates will play host to the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., after the Bates women entertain the USM women at 5:30.
