WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Bates College volleyball team fell 3-1 at Colby College in a NESCAC match played Wednesday night at Wadsworth Gymnasium. Colby won by set scores of 25-11, 23-25, 25-20, 25-22 for the Mules' first conference win of the season.
Bates (12-15, 1-6 NESCAC) received 10 kills from junior Tess Dokus (Salem, Conn.), while first-year Olivia Schow (Costa Mesa, Calif.) served six aces and had nine kills. Junior Avery Masters (Mill Valley, Calif.) also had nine kills, first-year Grace Haessler (Portland, Ore.) dished 32 assists and had nine digs, and junior Kira Kramlich (San Francisco, Calif.) added 14 digs.
The host Mules (10-12 overall, 1-6 NESCAC), playing their first home league match of the season, received 33 assists, seven defensive digs, six service aces, and five kills from senior setter Jenny Lawrence.
Heather Arvidson added 11 kills and six blocks for Colby, while Andrea Rosengarten had 19 digs and finished with 10 kills.
Bates visits Colby-Sawyer at 1 p.m. Saturday and will play Plattsburgh State there at 3 p.m.
