Edmonson pulls of rare triple-double at MIT Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Bates College volleyball team competed at the MIT Invitational Friday on Tufts University's home court and dropped a pair of 3-1 matches to Springfield College and Bridgewater State.


Bates sophomore Elise Edmonson (Crystal Lake, Ill.) pulled off the rare feat of a triple-double in the second match of the night, a 30-27, 30-21, 27-30, 30-23 loss to Bridgewater. Edmonson collected 14 kills, 13 digs and 16 assists in the match.

Other leaders in the Bridgewater match included sophomore Liz Leberman (Concord, N.H.) with 10 kills and nine digs; sophomore Avery Masters (Mill Valley, Calif.) with nine kills and three blocks; senior Brittany Clement (Gobles, Mich.) with 13 assists; sophomore Brit Johnston (Winter Park, Colo.) with 15 digs; and first-year Phoebe Reed (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with four aces and three blocks.

Earlier in the evening, Springfield College defeated the Bobcats by scores of 30-24, 30-20, 28-30 and 30-23, dropping Bates to 1-8 on the season. Edmonson again had a strong all-around performance with six kills, 11 digs, 20 assists and four service aces, while Leberman had eight digs to go with a team-high 12 kills. Johnson had a team-high 20 digs while Clement added 15 assists and eight digs. Masters and sophomore Tess Dokus (Salem, Conn.) had eight kills apiece.

Bates continues play at the MIT Invitational on Saturday at MIT in the Bronze Bracket. The Bobcats will face Emmanuel College at 10 a.m., followed by a match against either Muhlenberg or Endicott.
