NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- Junior Val Beckwith (Woburn, Mass.) led five Bates players in double figures with 17 points as the visiting Bobcats downed Norwich, 76-50, in a women's basketball game played Saturday afternoon at Andrews Hall. For Bates, the win avenges a pair of losses against Norwich a season ago.
Senior Sarah Barton (Portsmouth, N.H.) came within a steal and three rebounds of recording a quadruple-double for Bates (2-2) as she scored 15 points, dished out 13 assists, made a career-high nine steals and grabbed seven rebounds. Senior Matia Kostakis (Andover, Mass.) produced a double-double of her own, scoring 10 points and hauling in 10 rebounds. Junior ShawnRose Lanchantin (Natick, Mass.) and sophomore Danielle Schaefers (Barrington, R.I.) chipped in 10 points apiece.
Bates was in control of the game from the opening tip, and the Bobcats outscored Norwich 30-9 over the first 11 minutes of play. Bates led by as many as 28 points in the first half, and the Bobcats took a 46-23 lead into halftime. Norwich (0-6) was able to get no closer than 21 points the rest of the way.
Erica Rate led the Cadets with a game-high 21 points, while Ally Daniels chipped in 10 points. Laural McWilliams ripped down 10 rebounds, while Christine Daniels added eight points off the bench.
Norwich turned the ball over 29 times, and Bates scored 30 points off those miscues. The Cadets shot 34.5 percent from the field, while the Bobcats hit 42.0 percent of their field goals.
The Bobcats will play at UMaine-Farmington on Wednesday (Dec. 5) in their final game of the first semester.
