Volleyball team closes out season at Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates College volleyball team closed out the 2007 season with a 3-0 (30-19, 30-13, 30-19) loss at Bowdoin College on Sunday afternoon. The Polar Bears finish their regular slate with a record of 17-14 (3-7 NESCAC) and will travel to top-seeded Amherst for the NESCAC Championships next weekend. Bowdoin will face the Jeffs on Friday, November 2.


Bates completes their season with a mark of 7-24 (0-10 NESCAC), missing out on the postseason tournament.


Bates was led by six kills and two blocks from senior Jenn Linton (West Redding, Conn.) in defeat. Sophomore Brit Johnston (Winter Park, Colo.) had a team-high 14 digs to go along with a pair of aces for the Bobcats. It was the final match of their Bates careers for senior co-captains Linton and Brittany Clement (Gobles, Mich.)


Polar Bear seniors Margo Linton (22 assists, five aces) and Amanda Leahy (seven kills, five total blocks) paced Bowdoin, while Gillian Page posted 13 kills to lead the Bowdoin offense. Skye Lawrence had a team-high 15 digs.
