WATERVILLE, Maine -- Mary Clare Snediker (New Canaan, Conn.) scored both of Colby College's goals and made one of the Mules' three penalty strokes to help in a 3-2 win over Bates College in New England Small College Athletic Conference field hockey at Bill Alfond Field on Saturday.

Colby, which finishes its season at 5-9 overall and 2-7 in the NESCAC, had a 3-0 margin in the penalty stroke shootout after playing two periods of overtime. Snediker, MaryClaire McGovern (Stowe, Vt.), and Frazer Humes (Greenwood Village, Colo.) all converted in the shootout.

Bates finishes the year at 5-8-1 overall and 2-7 in the NESCAC, tied for eighth place.

The Bobcats came out flat in the first half and gave up an early score to the Mules, as Snediker scored 5:40 into the game off an assist from Amy Campbell (North Andover, Mass.). While Bates began picking up their play, Snediker added her second goal with 16:51 to halftime off a pass from McGovern.

The Bobcats buckled down in the second half, behind strong efforts from first-year goalkeeper Katie McEnroe (Hockessin, Del.) and senior back Sarah Peters (Acton, Mass.).

Bates cut the lead in half with 26:38 left in regulation on a penalty corner, when junior Abby Childs (Philadelphia, Pa.) deflected a rocket from sophomore Samantha Rothkopf (Chicago, Ill.) into the upper cage. Rothkopf then tied the game with just 8:42 remaining in the second half on another penalty corner, launching another screamer untouched off an assist from Caitlin Tamposi (Temple, N.H.).

Jamie Enos (South Hamilton, Mass.) made 12 saves in her final collegiate game for Colby. Katie McEnroe played the second half and overtime for Bates and allowed no goals with nine saves.

Playing in their final games for the Bobcats were seniors Erin Chandler (Thornton, Pa.), Lindsey Ferguson (Barrington, R.I.), Brynna Kelley (Berlin, N.H.), Peters and Tamposi.
