LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College volleyball team won both of its matches in the Midcoast Classic Saturday at Alumni Gym, beating Wheaton (Mass.) College 3-1 and the University of Dallas 3-2 to even their overall record to 10-10 this season.
The Bobcats defeated the Lyons of Wheaton Saturday morning by a score of 30-25, 17-30, 30-22, 30-21. First-year Liz Leberman (Concord, N.H.) had a team-high 13 kills in the match, along with big contributions by sophomore Beth Billington (St. Paul, Minn.) with six kills and five blocks, first-year Tess Dokus (Salem, Conn.) with seven kills, and senior Katie Graeff (Chevy Chase, Md.) with 27 assists.
Bates bounced back from a 2-1 deficit to outlast the Crusaders of Dallas Saturday afternoon by a score of 30-19, 26-30, 25-30, 30-21, 15-11. Graeff dished out 53 assists while five Bobcats registered double-figure marks in kills: Billington (10 kills, six blocks), Leberman (13), junior Jenn Linton (Redding, Conn.; 13 kills), first-year Avery Masters (Mill Valley, Calif.; 12 kills) and Dokus (10 kills).
Bates travels to Amherst on Sunday to take on the Lord Jeffs in a NESCAC showdown at noon.
