CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Bates College's volleyball team lost both of its matches on Saturday to Bridgewater State and Bowdoin College, as the MIT Invitational concluded.
The Bobcats (6-7) lost in straight games to Bridgewater, 30-32, 12-30, 25-30, despite eight kills from first-year Liz Leberman (Concord, N.H.). Senior Katie Graeff (Chevy Chase, Md.) had 17 assists and three service aces, and sophomore Beth Billington (St. Paul, Minn.) added five kills and two blocks.
Bowdoin beat Bates in straight games, 30-23, 30-22, 30-18. Graeff again came up with 17 assists in the match, while Billington had a team-high seven kills and tied for the team lead in blocks with first-year Avery Masters (Mill Valley, Calif.) at four apiece. Junior Jenn Linton (Redding, Conn.) had four kills and two blocks.
Bates next plays at Bowdoin on Sept. 27.
