LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College women's basketball team bounced back from an early 18-8 deficit with a 32-5 run in the first half, defeating Tufts University 78-47 in a NESCAC contest on Saturday.

Sophomore guard Sarah Barton (Portsmouth, N.H.) scored eight of her 18 points during a three-minute span of the first half as the Bobcats (15-7, 6-1 NESCAC) stormed out to a 43-25 lead by the break. Her outburst began with a pullup jumper to beat the shot clock and give Bates a 28-22 lead, and continued with three 3-pointers

Bates held on to a share of the league lead with the win.

Junior center Meg Coffin (Westford, Mass.) scored a game-high 22 points for Bates, grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and came up with three assists, three blocked shots and two steals. Barton added a game-high seven assists, five rebounds and three steals to go with her highest scoring output since Nov. 19 against Brandeis, when she scored 20.

Sophomore center Khalilah Ummah (Litchfield, Maine) led the Jumbos (8-12, 2-5 NESCAC) with 12 points and eight boards from off the bench. Junior forward Libby Park (Massena, N.Y.) added 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Bobcats held a huge advantage in shooting percentage, knocking down 47.8 percent of their field goal attempts and 42.8 percent of their 3-pointers. The Jumbos shot 28.4 percent from the floor, including 2-of-15 (13.3 percent) behind the arc. Starters Valerie Krah (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and Jessica Powers (Massapequa, N.Y.) were the main offenders, combining to shoot 3-for-27 (.111).

Bates plays host to Amherst Friday night and Trinity on Saturday in its final regular season games. Tufts will host Trinity on Friday and Amherst on Saturday.
