Bobcats too much for host Thomas College, 76-54

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Rob Stockwell scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Zak Ray dished out 11 assists to go with 10 points as the Bates College men's basketball team overpowered Thomas College 76-54 Monday night at the Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.


First-year Chris Wilson (Brewer, Maine) added 15 points while shooting 3-for-3 from behind the arc for the Bobcats, who are off to a 7-0 start, the second-best in school history. The 2004-05 team started out 8-0, which at the time was a school-record winning streak.

Aecio Madeira scored 25 points with 12 rebounds for the Terriers (1-5), and Darrel Alexander added 12 points.

Bates outrebounded Thomas 45-30, paced by junior guard Bryan Wholey's (Marshfield, Mass.) nine boards, and outscored the hosts by 11 points in each half.

Ray's 11 assists were the second-highest total of his career, one away from his career best 12 assists collected against Mount Ida College on Nov. 20, 2004.

Bates returns to play Wednesday night, when the Bobcats will host UMaine-Farmington at 7 p.m.
